Sucks to have a car payment again, but I couldn't pass up an 06 with 63000 miles on it.

The HID headlights are immensely better than my 05 G35 and my Audi B6 A4. Plus, I've got heated seats again. Yay.

Also, everyone at the Dodge dealership knew and loved the new Hellcats. This place also had a first gen Viper in the showroom too. Hnnnggg,

You've bought a clone of my roommate's car. I have notified him so he can post and you two can become best friends.

I like your style. You waist no kind of time. You just posted this car yesterday and driving home the next. I may be in the market for this or a G35S sometime towards the end of the year.

I've always liked these, even better than the newer ones. They're like a better looking 350z, but with an actual suspension as opposed to a "suspension" that feels like getting kidney punched, and the interior doesn't feel like boy racer bits from Advance Auto Parts.

Ive never driven a 350z but part of me thinks that its ok. One thing is sure, the interior does not age well on the 350z.

Always loved the front bumpers on these cars. So much better than the 350z. Also those wheels are great! Great buy, congrats!

Nice! I recently picked up a G35X as a Porsche preservation vehicle. When I keep my expectations in check, it has been nothing but impressive.

Speaking of preservation, I think this is the lowest mileage vehicle I've ever owned...

Hows the AWD system on the X?

The 350Z is a solid car, but in the era of the S2000 and RX-8, it's a pig. And that's why the package works better in Infiniti trim, as you expect a bit more weight in a car that has more amenities. The 370Z is a different story, though.

Ive got quite a bit of RX-8 seat time and can verify this to be true.

IMO there is a certain vibe in the chassis feel that the RX-8, S2k and 350/G35 all sorta remotely share. Combine that with responsive steering and quick reflexes...

I love it.

By preservation, I meant it has airbags, anti-lock brakes, four doors, and is an automatic. Thus my pregnant girl can drive it, so there's no reason at all for me to ever sell my Carrera. I lost my AE86 in that battle, but it was an SR5 so whatever. I still drive the 996 when the weather is bad enough for me not to ride a motorcycle, but good enough for me to not fear wrecking the 996.

I was really impressed with the AWD system. It's totally rear-wheel drive biased. It's more like a 4WD system with a computer controlled diff. From a stop, you get 33/66 rear bias. And I forget the exact MPH, but at something like 18 MPH the front wheels stop engaging. There's a snow mode button that supposedly makes the bias 50/50, but I haven't had a chance to drive it in the snow. Really, my only complaint is the additional weight, but even then, it's a cost effective psuedo-luxury car - there are going to be compromises. I've never driven an STi, but compared to the Subarus I have driven, the DSMs I have owned, the AUDIs I have driven, etc., it's a much more natural feeling AWD system, if that makes any sense. But I've predominantly owned RWD cars, so I can see some people thinking it's not confidence inspiring in the slightest.

Really, my biggest gripe with the car is that the suspension is too soft due to the increased weight. And the tuning scene entirely focused on the RWD models, so the G35X aftermarket is entirely based on what parts are fortunate enough to fit. Again - it's all about keeping the expectations in check. I could make the suspension harder to improve cornering, but then the car would be less enjoyable as a daily driver. And even if I dumped serious cash into getting a coilover system perfectly tuned, it still wouldn't corner as well as the 996, so why?

My second biggest gripe is the build quality - there's quite a few rattles and the like for the mileage given the car was badged as a luxury car. But that's entirely superficial. It does provide another reason why I should leave the soft suspension alone, though.

Like you, I need to do an Oppo car review. I'd just elaborate on this post. But it's still relevant information for potential buyers. Just need to find the time...

It's not a fair comparison.

The RX-8 had to price itself ~$5-10k lower than the 350Z and S2000 to stand a chance. And even then, it was done in by the horrible reliability of the Renesis engine. But the fact that Mazda could make a car with a one-off oddball motor and price it cheaper than their competitors is the one argument rotary enthusiasts never make, but still remains valid.

The S2000 is much more of an enthusiast car, but it pays for it in its practicality. The RX-8's rear seats were surprisingly large for a sports car. But Honda made a reliable rev-happy piston motor that compared favorably to the rotary Renesis. That's incredibly impressive.

But the 350Z was more the everyman's car. You want an automatic? Unlike the S2000, you can have one. Want a hardtop? Unlike the S2000, you can have one. Want a convertible? Unlike the RX-8 you can have one. Want remotely decent MPGs? Unlike the RX-8, you can have that. Want torque so you don't have to stress the motor to get any reasonable power out of it? Unlike both the S2000 and RX-8, you can have that. But in exchange, the 350Z shared its chassis - not with just the G35, but with SUVs, in order to help cut costs. And that does come across in the driving experience, but how often do you actually get the chance to drive spiritedly versus the same, soul killing morning commute? The 350Z/G35 excels there as easily the most enjoyable commuter vehicle.
